Chinese European Art Center (CEAC)

In November 1999 the Chinese European Art Center was founded as a joint venture with the Xiamen University Art College.The foundation has been initiated by Mrs. Ineke Gudmundsson from the Netherlands with the co-operation of Prof. Qin Jian.The Art Center is located in a very nice neighbourhood in Xiamen.  The exhibition hall has an area of about 70 square meters. The first exhibition was open the 26th.of November 1999 with the work of the Icelandic artist Sigurdur Gudmundsson, who is well known in Europe and whose works is represented in many of the leading European museums.

Most of the invited artist did give lectures to the students of the Art College. The Art Center also exhibits Chinese contemporary art and the work of Chinese young artist. Many exhibitions of well-known Chinese artists are on the program. All these outstanding exhibitions have attracted attention from the media and the press. Xiamen Daily has been reporting most of them. People hear something about the Art Center from time to time on CCTV 1 (which is the national broadcaster), Fujian TV News, Xiamen TV News (who covers all the openings of the CEAC exhibitions) and Xiamen University TV News. On November 4th 2000, the lithographic exhibition was reported by CCTV-1 and many other exhibitions were to follow. Till now The National TV channel from Beijing has regularly broadcasted views from the exhibitions and other activities made by the Chinese European Art Center.
In April 2001 the national TV station from Beijing (CCTV 1) made a 30 minutes long reportage with interviews with different European Artist. The film was broadcasted on the National TV channel as well as on many local TV-stations through out the country.  
Through the twelve years of its existing the CEAC has become a professional cultural exchange center between Europe and China on the field of the Arts. The CEAC is a member of RES ARTIS, which is an international organization of residential institutions. The Xiamen University sees the CEAC as a research project with an educational value and as a cultural service to the public in Xiamen, Fujian Province.
