Norwegian Coast
Tapestry from waste plastics
2023
Made at Natthagen residency, Julusdalen, Norway
700 x 230 cm
Waste plastics (fishing nets, ship ropes, floaters, gathered on European beaches, domestic plastic food packaging collected during residency, drink wrappings and bags from super markets, a lost professional broom from a city cleaning machine, waste gathered in the woods and fields), steel cable. While producing the tapestry the visiting Norwegian public advised me on the Norwegian map and talked about their personal experience with plastics. Awareness of the plastic pollution was one of the goals for the artist and Natthagen staff. A garbage bin is situated next to the tapestry but decay has not yet set in: the plastics are resistant.
