The work Avalanche contains a contradiction because the robust, voluminous design of the fallen boulders evokes a deadly scenario, while at the same time the lightness and semi-transparency of the Chinese paper deny this heaviness. The artist received an unconsciously given present in 2004, when, while constructing the work, an Iranian cleaning lady said the work reminded her of home. “This is how we bury our dead.” She summarized all the meanings of the work in a single sentence.
