Giant of the Forest
Installation with paper and living birds
2006
Height 515 cm.
Rice paper, pulp cane, bamboo, seeds, 6 living birds, sand
Photographer: Maarten van Loosbroek
Exhibition: the installation was specifically made for the space of De Overslag, an artist-run institute in Eindhoven. The work was triggered by the special ceiling of the exhibition space, which is a square building. In my view it looked like a tropical canopy, hence the foot of the tropical tree that needed to get constructed by me. During the exhibition bead curtains at all doors prevented the birds from escaping. After the exhibition they got a home at an aviary at a children’s playground.
