Körper & Seele
Körper & Seele / Body & Soul

Installation in Altdorf, Switzerland,
Ceramics, paper and wax, light, sound of sea, sand in and on a mountain slope
Körper und Seele is an installation from 1997 around the mountain of the Kellertheater im Vogelsang in Altdorf, Switzerland. On the mountainside we see several ceramic pillars, varying in height and shape. The design is reminiscent of evolutionary processes. Around the pillars we see the steep mountains of the Swiss province of Uri. Inside the mountain is a hollow space, a dimly lit cellar, with pillars hanging from the ceiling. The pillars are now made of paper, impregnated with candle wax and therefore semi-transparent. They are rather like a relic of a discarded life form.
The mountain of sand at the bottom of this cellar is trying to reach the light and striving upwards. In the cellar the sea makes murmuring sounds.
The mountain is the dividing line between the erected and the hanging pillars as the thin dividing line between the visible world and that beyond.
